In particular, the link between the principle of non-intervention and the principle of prohibition of the use of force would appear to be evident in the framework of both international armed conflicts and non-international armed conflicts. This is due to doubts regarding both the content of that principle (for example, whether it covers any and all types of external intervention in a foreign territory or just the most significant forms of intervention, as the armed interventions) and the links between the principle in question and other fundamental principles of international law (for example, the principle of non-interference in the domestic affairs of foreign States, the principle of prohibition of the use of force and the principle of self-determination). The principle of non-intervention is one of great importance in the international legal system but at the same time one of complex definition.
